To begin our living room renovation, we worked on the fireplace first. We removed the existing brick fireplace & replaced it with a natural local Vermont stone from Premier Stone & Tile. Since we took the stone all the way to the ceiling, the new fireplace gives the room a grounded focal point. We reused the existing mantle, which is a gorgeous, solid piece of wood. Our goal was to give the living room a ski-lodge feel, making it inviting to sit & relax in as a respite from the cold weather here in Vermont.

Next up was removing the carpet & taking out the closet that stood at the front entrance of the room. We also closed up the second doorway into the kitchen that was accessed by the front entrance. For our new floors, we installed wide plank pine we purchased from rk MILES.

We painted the drywall in the living room with Benjamin Moore’s Swiss Coffee, a warm off-white color. Steve added all of the cedar trim (left from the previous owners), a large statement light fixture, track lighting for the fireplace, brass switch plate covers, & recessed iron floor vent covers.

*The living room is not completely finished. We plan to install new windows & doors, reupholstering our rocking chair + ottoman, adding an ottoman to the couch, & a new entrance rug. Stay tuned for those updates!
